DALMATIA - much more than the Dalmatian dogs
The Adriatic sea, the way it over centuries softly caressed the the Mediterranean mountain coastline, has left its
traces of a unique landscape. Today this part of the coast with its multifold of islands, romantic bays, serpentine
roads and breathtaking summits has developed into a tourist paradise. The beaches, often isolated by fine smelling
pine trees from the roads, are mostly made of soft pebbles that mix with the crystal clear turquoise water as far as
your eye can carry. Dalmatia is a prefect mix of nature's beauty combined with centuries of tales. Beginning with the
Antique, the old Croatian and the Roman Empire, the history has left ts traces not only on the coast, but in the rural
and urban settlements of Dalmatia as well, e.g.
SIBENIK. As a guest, you will be several times encountered with the multifold of culture
and history that Dalmatia offers you. You can choose from a variety of themes - from music, art and architecture in the
cities to sports, e.g. mountain climbing, rafting, biking, tennis, sailing or diving on the coast. The warm nights in the
south are are full of life and the piazza crowded from locals, exchanging the daily news over a glass of local brandy.
The air temperature is from 27 to 33 degrees Celcius in Dalmatia during the summer months and the water temperature remains
around 25 degrees Celcius until beginning of October.
MURTER - a gateway
to Kornati
The 19 km² sized island Murter, is connected to the mainland via a small bridge in the Murter-channel in Tisno. Its mainland
connection, well equipped marinas, excellent beaches and its close location to Kornati National Park, make Murter a very attractive tourist
resort in the season. Around Murter you find many small islands, bays and beaches. The isand has soft hills, the summit, the mountain Raduc
reaches 127 m. You should not miss to climb the Raduc, because the view it offers is excellent: from here you see down to Murter and all the
islands that reach far into the horizon. Another highlight is Sv. Rok, the oold church above the village Murter. From here it is very romantic
to follow the sunset. Murter is the turistic center and main village of the island, additional there is 3 further villages:
Jezera, Betina
and Tisno - all of them also touristic resorts. All villages are well connected with the local bus, which usualy continues to Vodice or Sibenik.
On the island you find three marinas and several camping places. There is a variety of private rooms and appartments to choose from. On the
island you also find two hotels. Around the island you have many small bays and beaches, Slanica bay is the most beautiful one, located near
the village Murter. In Murter you also find excellent conditions for sports and recreation. Most of the shops, cafes and restaurants are also
here. During summer you find many happenings in Murter: sailing regatta, sports championships, city festivals and traditional feasts. In the
past the inhabitants of Murter were peasants, fishermen, seamen and shipbuilders, today most earn their living from tourism. Numerous olive
trees and mini-marinas in front of the houses tell about the past.
Once upon a time sta there was more than 170.000 olive trees in Murter and the
oil was served even to the Austrian Emperor himself! Still today each 6th Croatian island belong to a Murterian, althogether from the about
189 islands in the Kornati, the majority is owned by Murterians. In the past the life of the inhabitants was more cumbersome. They left to
the Kornati islands with so called "Gajetas" - ships, especially constructed for rough seas. On the islands they caught fish and tried to
cultivate the meager soil. On the Kornati islands you find many remainings of this period: small stone huts and walls made of stone. Ship building
lives its reneissance - in Murter and Betina "Gajeta" wooden ships are again built in many family and commercial ship yards. One can prove, that
the Illyrians were settlers of Muter: the remainings of the Illyrian settlement Collentum can be seen in Betina. The island Srimac was found in
the middle ages, also the oldest villages Veliko Selo (Murter) and Jezeranica were created at that time. Air temperature in Dalmatia is in the
summer between 27 and 33 degrees Celcius and the water temperature is in the beginning of October still about 25 degrees.

NATIONAL PARKS
Close to our dive center in Murter there is four national parks: Telascica, Kornati, Krka and Vis.
On the way to Murter you find another national park - Plitvice, which many of us know
from Karl May's films. We dive in Kornati 2-3 times per week, National park Vis is part
of our safari program.
The visibility and the richness of flora and fauna under water is the
attraction of the national park. The KORNATI islands (about 140 so called "Crown"-islands) are also very
much appreciated by sailors.

CITY TOURS
The culture in Croatia and Dalmatia developed early a tie to the Mediterranean culture.
There are many traces from the byzanthean period and the Roman Emperors. Under the influence of Venice
a special gothic style developed in the 15th century. One of the most impressive representatives of
this period is Juraj Dalmatinac. This remarkable artist has greatly influenced the cities of Split and
Zadar. His most impressive work is the cathedrale of Sibenik, which UNESCO has taken into its collection
of historical, cultural monuments world wide. These three cities are easily accessable for a day trip
from Murter. On the way to Split you should also visit Trogir - one of the oldest cities of Croatia.

KRKA WATER FALLS
About 40 km from Murter direction Sibenik, Krka floats into the sea, making a spectacular water
performance. The river is 72 km long and has formed many impressive waterfalls as it runs. In 1965
this region was declared into a national park. More than 850 plants and 18 fish species make the area
an important reserve. The river valley is an ancient settlement, with traces from prehistorical times,
a roman aquaduct, buildings and cultural monuments from the middle ages. The franciscan monastery, on the
river island of Visovac and the orthodox monastery Krka, are the most important cultural heritages from
this period. On the water falls Roski slap and Skradinksi buk one finds grain mills. The excursion can

CLIMBING & RAFTING
Omis by the river of Cetina, is located about 100km south of Split. The river offers
a variety of experiences, trips and sports. You can make rafting, canyoning and paragliding. The cliffs around
Omis are a must among free climbers. Due to its damm, you can make all water sports in Cetina also in summer, when
most of the rivers have too little water. Omis itself is a small Dalmatian town, with a wonderful stone architecture
and a Mediterranean ambiente. An ancient fortress Mirabella overlooking the the old town, shows traces of the town's pirate history.
